Livingston Parish man sentenced after conviction for sexual battery of juvenile

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An Albany man will likely be spending the rest of his life in prison after sentencing was handed down by Judge Erika Sledge.

Joshua Prine, 43, was found guilty of sexual battery of a juvenile and will serve 75 years in prison.

According to The Office of District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux, the victim in this case was ten-years-old.

He was sentenced on Monday, Sept. 22, following an investigation by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office in 2023. The investigation centered around alleged abuse at an in-home daycare which was not licensed.

During the trial, Prine’s ex-wife testified that the Albany man was never by himself with children that she was caring for.

Perrilloux said that during the case, Assistant District Attorney Brett Sommer provided messages between Prine and his ex-wife which showed the Albany man was told to “confess, take a plea, and stop lying to himself.”

“Combined with the evidence from medical experts, family members, and the victim, these messages successfully raised doubts about the woman’s in-court testimony,” Perrilloux said.

The district attorney praised multiple people in connection with the investigation.

“This case represents a tremendous effort by investigators to stop any further abuse. Our office applauds the work of the LPSO detectives who worked tirelessly to complete a prompt and thorough investigation into these allegations. I also applaud the work of Brett Sommer to get justice for our victim, who courageously took the stand and testified to the abuse this child endured,” Perrilloux said.
