INDIANAPOLIS — A juvenile was critically injured in a crash on the east side of Indianapolis Saturday night.

A public police report indicates officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the intersection of East 21st Street and North Arlington Avenue around 10:44 p.m. to investigate a crash. When police arrived at the scene, they located a juvenile male who appeared to have sustained serious injuries.

During a media briefing, IMPD Night Watch Captain John Arvin indicated the juvenile victim was struck by a motorist while he was riding a scooter. Arvin also added that gas station security camera video showed the juvenile purchasing some items, hopping on a scooter and riding northbound on Arlington Avenue moments before the crash was reported.

“(The video) will really help investigators to find out red lights, green lights,” Arvin said. “That’s a big factor. And also maybe some speed that the driver, the striking vehicle, if they were going too fast or too slow, turning left or turning right. All those kind of things will help out the investigation a lot.”

Police have indicated that, as of Sunday night, the juvenile was still in critical condition at a local hospital. Arvin added that, at one point, hospital staffers placed the boy on ventilator.

IMPD’s report on the incident indicates officers successfully identified the motorist involved in the crash. The latest report suggests that the driver does not currently face any criminal charges.

As of this article’s publication, no additional information on the crash had been made available.
