DA: 2 indicted after inmate’s overdose death at St. Helena Parish Jail
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Two inmates were indicted last week in connection with the overdose death of another inmate at the St. Helena Parish Jail.
District Attorney Scott Perrilloux said Tilman Myles, 35, and Brandon Burge, 38, were indicted for second-degree murder after Roger B. Vernon, 40, was found dead in April. Myles and Burge were among the 11 people arrested in the case.
“Fentanyl is an incredibly dangerous drug, and its presence inside correctional facilities puts both inmates and staff at extreme risk. This indictment is a critical step toward holding those responsible accountable for the loss of life that occurred,” Perrilloux said.
