BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Police arrested a suspect Tuesday after an investigation into multiple armed robberies in Baton Rouge.

The Baton Rouge Police Department investigated six different armed robberies at various businesses in the city over a span of a few days. Robberies took place between Aug. 31 and Sept. 3 at the following places.

    class="wp-block-list">
  • Circle K (4959 Evangeline St.)
  • Smiley 75 (2332 Chippewa St.)
  • Kangaroo Express (12390 Scotland Ave.)
  • Tim’s Food Mart (824 N. Ardenwood Drive)
  • Exxon (10888 Scotland Ave.)
  • Cousin’s Food Mart (6288 Airline Highway)

Detectives believed that the crimes were connected due to the timeline and matching descriptions of the suspect. Police said in multiple cases, there were two people involved in the armed robberies, with one person jumping over the counter and taking money from the cash register while the other pointed a gun at an employee. More than $3,000 was taken.

Jacobey Cossett, 20, was identified as a suspect and charged with six counts of armed robbery with a firearm. Investigators used ankle monitoring locations and cellphone records to pinpoint that Cosset was around where the robberies took place. Court records show he was ordered to be held without bond.

BRPD said he was arrested last year for a similar series of robberies. He was previously charged with theft of a motor vehicle, armed robbery with a firearm, unlawful handling of a machine gun, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and simple burglary.

Police said more arrests are expected in the most recent case.

The investigation remains ongoing, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
