SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – $305,000 was presented to 6 organizations at a ceremony in Shreveport.

The Christus Community Impact Fund will help non-profits such as the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, Shreveport Green, the LSU Ag Center, Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, Community Renewal International, and St. Luke’s Mobile Medical Ministry, Inc.

“These, these 6 organizations are filling the gaps in the needs that we identified through our community needs assessment.” said Christus President Casey Robertson.

Christus leaders say this funding is part of their ongoing mission to uplift local communities.

“We’re faith based and this is part of part of our faith, part of our mission to extend the healing ministry of Jesus Christ and these organizations are doing that every day,” said, Robertson.

For groups like Shreveport Green, the grant supports their mobile market program delivering affordable, locally grown produce to neighborhoods with limited access to grocery stores.

“This is one of the primary pieces that makes our systems within Shreveport green so efficient because a lot of what we do is through the environmental lens, but we create food, we support farmers, we serve people that live in low-access neighborhoods through our mobile market program,” said Shreveport Green Executive Director, Lauren Jones.

Other organizations like the LSU Ag Center and Cada say this grant will expand training and provide vital resources for families in need across north Louisiana.

“Dive more into the community more than we already do and hit people that we’ve never touched before. With more funding, we have more access to do even more,” said LSU AG spokesperson Shakera Williams

This year alone, Christus Health plans to distribute 3.7 million to nonprofits across the region.
