NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans City Council met Thursday, Sept. 25, to discuss ways to eliminate fatal and serious injury crashes on local roadways.
WGNO’s Rain Augustine sat in on the meeting.
The city’s Safety Action Plan received a grant of over $750,000 and a nine-month extension, allowing more time to incorporate community feedback into its research. The Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration is collaborating with the community to improve conditions for motorists.
Reports from the last full year show over 6,000 traffic accidents resulting in 41 fatalities. 2025 data shows 33 deaths so far this year.
