4th annual Creole Culture Day
GRAND COTEAU, La. (KLFY) — The 4th Annual Creole Culture Day will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Town Hall Park in Grand Coteau.

The event is free and open to the public, offering a day of cultural programming that highlights the heritage of Louisiana Creoles, with a emphasis on the French language and Creole traditions in Louisiana.

Main activities begin at 10:00 a.m. and include Creole French Bingo, live music performances, a genealogy section to help individuals trace their Creole ancestry and various food trucks and vendors.

Musical entertainment will be provided by Step Rideau & the Zydeco Outlaws.

The event also includes a traditional hog butchering, at 6 AM. Demonstrations will be conducted in French, showcasing the preparation of staple Creole foods such as cracklins and boudin. Food from the butchering will be served to attendees at no cost.

Creole Culture Day centers on the preservation and celebration of Creoles of Color, emphasizing the cultural and historical significance of the French language within the Creole identity.

Organizers aim to promote education, community engagement, and the continuation of cultural practices that are central to Louisiana’s Creole heritage.
