Through their investigations, SPD has identified 21-year-old Rasson Smith Jr. as a suspect in the September 20, 2025, mass shooting on Poland Avenue.

Police say the shooting occurred just after 2:00 a.m. in the 1600 block of Poland Avenue when officers responded to reports of gunfire at a large gathering of more than 150 people.

Upon arrival, they encountered a chaotic scene and discovered eight victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while six others were injured and expected to survive.

The department says initial investigations led them to believe the shooting was a targeted attack, with the intended target hit, but facing non-life-threatening injuries.

Mayor Tom Arceneaux reflects on the loss of life.

“I know I speak for all of Shreveport when I say we are heartsick at the loss of life in Allendale. Shreveport deserves safe streets; this kind of violence has no place here. We will mourn the victims, pursue those responsible, and continue the hard work with our law enforcement and community to make every neighborhood safer.”

Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith demanded the shooters take responsibility, “This was a reckless and senseless act of violence that cut short two lives and left families shattered. To those responsible—turn yourselves in now. We will not stop until every person involved is held accountable.”

Investigators believe there were multiple shooters involved.

Given the number of people present, the police encourage any witnesses with information to come forward.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Shreveport Police Department at 318-673-7300.
