According to the public information officer for the school district, the incident took place during an elementary school field trip.
“The safety of our students and staff, whether on our school campuses or on a field trip as was the case today, is always our top priority,” said Mike Rosier, Edgefield County School District PIO. “There were no injuries reported and we are cooperating with law enforcement in addition to conducting a full investigation of the facts. We are especially grateful to our parents and members of law enforcement whose quick action helped end the incident without further escalation.”
