The initiative targets the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball and National Hockey League — where local rights have been most affected — while opening opportunities for college, minor league and semi-pro sports without existing TV or streaming deals.
Powered by FreeCast’s Broadcast Enable Streaming Television (BEST) technology, RSSCs would deliver games and related programming directly to local markets via over-the-air broadcast and geo-fenced streaming across devices. FreeCast says teams could spin up branded regional channels quickly, reach fans on broadcast and streaming apps simultaneously, and retain control over content and distribution with multiple monetization options.
Beyond game delivery, each channel can function as a T-commerce hub that supports advanced ad tech and sponsorships, e-commerce and merchandising, fan communities and first-party data ownership — creating diversified revenue streams compared to large rights pacts that can pressure distributors’ finances.
“Streaming services are spending big on sports because it’s basically an arms race right now,” said William Mobley, FreeCast CEO. “If you do the math on these multi-billion-dollar deals, there’s almost no way the big SVOD players make money. We’re offering a solution that gives leagues and teams multi-channel distribution and innovative monetization options so they can control their revenue streams and ensure their fans have access.”
