According to the Rockford Police Department, officers were summoned to the 1000 block of Benton Street around 10:33 p.m.
When police arrived, Edwards was seen walking into the building. Officers were able to find a spent shell casing nearby, and requested a search warrant to enter the apartment.
Once executed, detectives placed Edwards under arrest. During the search, police said ammunition and two weapons were found.
Edwards now faces charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification card.
He was booked into the Winnebago County Jail pending the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing.
