DRAPER, Utah (
ABC4) — Draper City has announced tax rates will decrease for residents this fiscal year due to the city missing a requirement related to a Truth in Taxation Hearing held in August.
The Truth in Taxation process is a state-mandated public hearing to inform the public about proposed property tax rate increases for the upcoming year.
During their hearing in August, Draper City proposed maintaining the same property tax rate after paying off a bond debt. According to the City, “This action would help with rising operating costs due to inflation.”
However, Draper City missed the state requirement to include the county’s list of all entities seeking a tax increase in the City’s presentation during the hearing.
Draper City claims the requirement was not included on the checklist provided by the state.
As a result, the City cannot use the originally proposed higher tax rate for the current fiscal year, ultimately amounting to a tax decrease for Draper City residents.
In an X post on Thursday, Draper City said, “It is important to be open with residents about our processes.”
