Louisiana State Police said Patricia Saidu, 21, died, and another person was hurt.
Troopers responded to the crash around 11 p.m., close to milepost 210, and initiated an investigation. An investigation found that a GMC Yukon entered the interstate the wrong way from US 51 in LaPlace as a Nissan Altima was traveling west. The GMC Yukon hit the Nissan Altima head-on, resulting in a fire.
The driver of the GMC was taken to the hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the crash, LSP said. Saidu was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are waiting for the results of tests for impairment.
The investigation remains ongoing.
A GoFundMe was created to raise money to fund Saidu’s funeral and burial costs. The fundraiser description described Saidu as having the “brightest smile, a heart full of compassion, and a passion for healing others.” Click here to donate.
