Armed suspect arrested in Rockford apartment complex standoff, drugs found
According to the Rockford Police Department, officers were called to an apartment complex in the 4400 block of Carthage Drive around 11:24 p.m. on Sunday, September 14th.
Police said the victims said the suspect, 34-year-old Brian Davis, had previously stolen a vehicle and was armed with a firearm. When officers arrived on the scene, Davis had left.
On Friday, September 19th, around 8:42 a.m., officers were recalled to the apartment complex by a caller who said a “suspicious-looking man with a satchel” sped into the parking lot. When a Rockford officer arrived on the scene, Davis ran into the building.
Police surrounded the building and searched the car, which was reported stolen from another jurisdiction, and found handgun ammunition in the vehicle.
It was 12:25 p.m. when the police department’s Violent Crime and Gang Unit detectives got a search warrant to enter the apartment, at which time Davis was taken into custody.
Police said two other people were hiding in the bathroom.
Inside the apartment, authorities reported finding over 71 grams of methamphetamine, over 300 grams of cannabis, ammunition in five different calibers, a taser, and two handguns.
Davis was charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, 8 counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner’s Identification, unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, possession with intent to deliver cannabis, along with a Wisconsin Department of Corrections hold, a burglary warrant out of Will County, a retail theft warrant from McHenry County, and a stolen vehicle warrant from Winnebago County.
Courtney Feltz, 31, was charged with possession of methamphetamine.
Dominque Cotton, 37, was arrested on a Winnebago County warrant for domestic battery.
