LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ohio (WOWK) – One person has died after a vehicle crashed into a house in Lawrence County, Ohio.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. Monday. They say the 911 call came in regarding a residential fire with entrapment at a home along State Route 243. Troopers say once they arrived, they learned that the fire started from a vehicle crash.

The OSHP says a vehicle traveling west on State Route 243 went off the right edge of the road and back across the road before it went off the left side of the road and over an embankment. Troopers say the vehicle then overturned onto the home’s propane tank before coming to a stop inside the home.

According to the OSHP, an explosion then occurred, engulfing the home and vehicle in flames.

A woman and a man were inside the home at the time of the crash, troopers say. According to troopers, the man and the vehicle driver were able to escape but were taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

The woman, whom OSHP has identified as Penny White, 47, died of her injuries at the scene.

Troopers say the crash is still under investigation.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, the Chesapeake Police Department, the Proctorville Fire Department, the Union Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Proctorville Police Department, Lawrence County EMS, the Lawrence County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office also responded to the scene.
