Two killed in crash involving Amtrak train headed toward Alabama
PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. (WGNO) — A crash involving an Amtrak train out of New Orleans claimed the lives of two people Tuesday, Sept. 23.

According to the Pass Christian Police Department, around 7:14 p.m. officers and firefighters with the Pass Christian Fire Department responded to the scene of a crash between a train and vehicle.

An investigation revealed, at the time of the crash, the train was headed east toward Mobile, Alabama before colliding at the corner of Davis Avenue and the railroad tracks.

As a result, 24-year-old Tavianna Ellegant was pronounced dead on the scene while 31-year-old Douglas Craddock was pronounced dead at Ochsner Medical Center.

The train was reportedly apart of Amtrak’s new Mardi Gras service, serving as a twice-daily intercity train service traveling between Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans.

Police report no passengers on the train were injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
