19-year-old flown to Indy hospital after motorcycle crash in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A 19-year-old man is receiving treatment at an Indianapolis hospital after a motorcycle crash in Tippecanoe County.

Sheriff’s deputies were called just after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to the 4800 block of Old State Road 231 in Lafayette for a motorcycle crash. Upon arrival, they found a 19-year-old male suffering from a broken arm and a broken leg.

Authorities said the 19-year-old was flown via lifeline to a hospital in Indianapolis. He is reportedly seriously injured.

Witnesses on scene told police that the 19-year-old was driving a motorcycle and “speeding and passing vehicles” when he lost control. The bike and driver reportedly rolled “a few times” before crashing into a tree line near McCutcheon High School.

Police said the motorcycle was the only vehicle involved in the crash and that the driver was the only person injured. Officials added that the driver did have a helmet on.

Sheriff’s office officials said “excessive speed is speculated to be a factor.” No other information was immediately provided by the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office.
