SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A woman has been arrested and charged after allegedly fighting against an officer who was trying to detain her and repeatedly striking her with a rock, causing injuries.
Shrue Rison Wakuk, 43, is charged with aggravated assault targeting law enforcement with bodily injury, a first-degree felony; criminal trespass after notice, a Class B misdemeanor; and interfering with a peace officer, a Class B misdemeanor.
According to court documents, on Sept. 19, 2025, a Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) officer witnessed a woman standing under an overpass with clear “No Trespassing” signs posted. The officer informed the woman — later identified as Wakuk — that she was trespassing and asked for identifying information.
Wakuk was allegedly holding a “2×4 wooden stick” as the officer spoke with her, and was ordered several times to drop it before she complied. The SLCPD officer asked Wakuk to sit down until her information could be verified, but Wakuk reportedly refused.
The officer warned Wakuk that “if she did not comply, she would detain her in handcuffs until she could verify her information,” as the officer was alone with the woman. Documents say that Wakuk continued refusing to comply, leading the SLCPD officer to attempt to handcuff her.
At this point, Wakuk allegedly resisted arrest and attempted to punch the officer in the head. The officer punched Wakuk in response and pinned her against a wall. During the struggle to take Wakuk down to detain her, the two women ended up on the ground.
According to court documents, Wakuk got out of the SLCPD officer’s grip and yelled, “If you don’t stop, I’ll f— kill you!” She then grabbed a rock and struck the officer with it “multiple times in her head, causing lacerations.”
Backup officers arrived and witnessed Wakuk on top of the officer with a rock, documents say. They detained Wakuk and brought her in for an interview, during which she allegedly admitted that she refused to be handcuffed because “she wanted a citation for trespassing and didn’t want to be arrested.”
“I grabbed a rock and I hit her really hard on the head because I know she’s a terrorist,” Wakuk allegedly stated during the interview with police. She told police that she struck the SLCPD officer with a rock at least six times because the officer “continued to fight back,” court documents say.
The SLCPD officer was transported to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.
Wakuk was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, where she is currently being held on a no-bail warrant. Police believe that she is a transient in the community, as she doesn’t have a valid address.
