Severe Weather Alert: Timeline and expected impact of severe storms in the Big Country overnight

BIG COUNTRY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The Big Country is preparing for another round of active weather this evening through tomorrow morning. It’s important to remain weather-aware as we dive into the nighttime hours.

Currently, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms has been outlined by the Storm Prediction Center. This risk includes most of our viewing area, with impacts expected primarily during the evening/overnight hours, clearing out around tomorrow afternoon.

What does this mean for us?

Storms that develop could bring:

• Heavy rainfall
• Strong, potentially damaging winds
• Small hail

At this time, no tornado threat is expected with this system.

Weather Timeline:

• Tuesday 5:00 p.m.
  Initial front begins to develop within our counties.
• Tuesday 8:00 p.m.
  The main squall line continues. Straight-line winds also strengthen.
• Wednesday 12:00 a.m.
  We receive a brief break before another round of storms.
• Wednesday 3:00 a.m.
  Strong storms begin to migrate through our Western counties.
• Wednesday 5:00 a.m.
  These storms reach the Key City. This second round will bring a minor hail threat along with it.
• Wednesday 8:00 a.m.
  Heavy rainfall reaches our Eastern counties.
• Wednesday 4:00 p.m.
  Rainfall exits the Big Country.
