PROVO, Utah (ABC4) — Provo Police responded to two crashes on University Avenue during rush hour on Monday, including one where a motorcyclist was killed.
According to Provo Police, the fatal crash happened around 6:35 p.m. on Monday, September 22, during rush hour. A passenger van was traveling northbound on University Avenue, and it made a left turn at the intersection of 1200 S. It collided with a motorcycle that was traveling southbound.
The motorcyclist was transported to Utah Valley Hospital but died due to their injuries from the crash.

While police were on their way to the scene of the first crash, another crash happened near 300 S University Avenue. A vehicle hit the center island structure of the road and blocked traffic. That driver sustained only minor injuries and was transported to Utah Valley Hospital.
Provo Police said that due to the circumstances of the second crash, responding officers began a DUI investigation.
Officers from the Orem Police Department assisted Provo Police in handling both accidents at the same time, during peak traffic hours. “We extend our gratitude to Orem PD for their mutual aid,” Provo Police stated in a press release.

Some southbound lanes on University Avenue were closed while police investigated the scene of the fatal crash, but all lanes have been reopened, and the road is clear.
The Provo Polie Traffic Accident team is investigating the fatal crash. No further information about the crashes or the victim is available at this time.
