BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An arrest has been made in connection with a pedestrian struck on Friday, Sept. 19.

Paul Leduff, 56, of Greenwell Springs, was charged with hit-and-run vehicular homicide/injuring, reckless operation of a vehicle, switched license plate, operating while intoxicated; second offense, and insurance required.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office said they were called to the scene around 11 p.m. They said the identity of the person who was killed will be released once next of kin have been notified.

Leduff was arrested just before midnight on Friday, Sept. 19, after the Baton Rouge Police Department responded to I-10 West at Dalrymple Drive. BRPD learned that a white truck hit the pedestrian.

Officers found the truck and two people inside, including a driver and a passenger. An officer found evidence that led them to believe someone tried to remove a switched license plate from the truck.

The responding officer made contact with Leduff, who had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and smelled like alcohol, BRPD said.

The Greenwell Springs man said he had one beer after work. According to BRPD, he did not do well when doing field sobriety tests. Leduff took a breath test, and his results came back at 0.117 g%.

He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Saturday, Sept. 20.
