Loyola College Prep debuts first-ever live mascot, Flyer the Beagle
Flyer is currently training to become a certified therapy pet through Louisiana Tech University, which also has a live mascot: Tech XXII the Bulldog. Student handlers will help care for Flyer and walk with him at school events, including pep rallies and games.
“Loyola has always been unique in having Snoopy, the Red Baron, as our mascot, and now we’re the only high school in the country to have a live Beagle mascot to match,” said Dr. Laurie Salvail, Principal of Loyola College Prep. “Flyer is adorable, spirited, and already loved by our students. He represents what makes our school special: tradition, joy, and Flyer pride.”
According to a press release, University Veterinary Hospital will monitor Flyer’s health and well-being as his official veterinary partner.
Flyer made his official debut at Loyola’s Homecoming pep rally on Friday, bringing joy and excitement to students, faculty, and staff.
“From the start, we knew Flyer would be the perfect fit for Loyola,” said Dr. Salvail. “He’s already become part of our family, and we can’t wait for the community to meet him.”
