Sunday forecast: Cloudy skies and rain chances continue
Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms are expected Sunday and into the start of the work week. While there will be some dry breaks in between, skies will stay mostly cloudy.
Highs will reach the upper 70s, keeping temperatures mild despite the unsettled conditions.
You can see by this animation, there will be plenty dry hours to get things done outdoors but showers and thunderstorms will be on and off through the weekend and into part of next week.
The heaviest rainfall is expected to fall downstate Illinois and Missouri, but at least some beneficial rain is expected across the Chicago area in distinct separate clusters.
The greatest temperature surplus will occur across the northern tier states near the U.S./Canadian border while unsettled weather brings cooler, more seasonable weather across the Chicago area and much of the Mid-Mississippi River Valley.
