COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A good Samaritan is credited with getting a Columbus family out of their burning home and now that mother who lost everything wants to thank the community for their help.

Corlette Cooper, a homeowner for three years, lost her house on Bondwood Drive to a fire last week.

The mother of three was resting at home with her teenage son and daughter around eleven that night.

They heard a knock at the door and a complete stranger screaming that the house was on fire.

Fortunately, everyone was able to get out of the house safely, only leaving with their dog and a birth certificate, and each other.

Although Cooper lost everything, she chooses to focus on the overwhelming support she has received from the community.

“To see this type of love from strangers, from people that we didn’t even know, and from people that we do know, the family, the friends, the loved ones just come together as one,” Cooper said. “To see what they can be able to do, it is just a blessing. It’s just so great.”

A neighbor Cooper had never met stopped and offered brand new supplies for her home and her support.

The family has also received donations and support from multiple individuals and organizations across Columbus.

Cooper plans to rebuild her home and in the meantime give back to her community as they have poured into her family.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined.

The family is accepting donations and appreciates any and everything the community is willing to offer.
