A Mora man who reportedly threatened to hurt and kill two separate church music directors is facing numerous charges.
John Allan Sandeen Jr., 64, has been charged with multiple felonies after sending emails claiming he would harm and kill two people, apparently in response to the Sept. 10 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Court documents stated that Sandeen sent emails to two church music directors, one in Maple Grove and another in White Bear Lake. Sandeen reportedly threatened both of the individuals.
“I think that you and your cohorts have killed my friend Charlie,” Sandeen reportedly wrote in one email to the man in Maple Grove. “For this I hold you and your people responsible. It’s fair game to let the hunted know that they are hunted. You are now advised.”
In other emails, Sandeen reportedly described how he would hurt and kill the Maple Grove director, breaking his fingers, castrating and decapitating him.
When speaking with the police, the Maple Grove director said he had never met Sandeen and could not recall an interaction that occured between the two.
The director from White Bear Lake informed authorities in Ramsey County that he had known Sandeen for many years and that the two would often communicate over the phone or email.
The director recalled Sandeen had attended a Beatles Ensemble concert, where the Maple Grove director was performing. During the concert, the Maple Grove director reportedly made a quip about ICE between sets, which Sandeen allegedly took offense to.
The White Bear Lake director told authorities that emails sent to him made threats to the other director, but also had threats directed at him.
“All your liberal left leaning people are now targets,” Sandeen allegedly wrote. “You people killed my friend with your rhetoric. Now it is pay back time you better f****** hide.”
Ramsey County authorities later found Sandeen at an airport hangar and questioned him about the emails.
Sandeen initially told investigators that he did not recall sending any, but after being read one of the messages, he said he remembered writing it. Sandeen reportedly told authorities he did not remember to whom he had sent it, and that he was likely drunk when he wrote it. He was arrested.
Because the directors live in separate counties, Sandeen is facing two separate court cases for the threats.
In Ramsey County, he is facing one count of felony stalking and another count of threats of violence. In Hennepin County, he is facing four counts of threats of violence.
Sandeen is currently in custody in the Ramsey County Jail.
