Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (MDPS), said an officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near 22nd Street and 17th Avenue in Columbus around 8:30 a.m. on September 19, 2025.
According to Martin, the officer exited his vehicle, and the suspect attempted to strike the officer with his vehicle. She said the officer discharged his weapon but did not strike the suspect.
After a brief chase, the suspect’s vehicle came to a stop. Martin said the suspect ran away from the vehicle and was taken into custody.
MBI agents will share their findings with the local District Attorney’s Office.
