2-year-old missing after family's car swept away in California flood waters
Video from a bystander showed a white sedan being forced sideways by strong currents flowing across Main Street between Lenwood Road and Sweeten Lane.
Family members told KTLA that the child was in the car with his father as they attempted to cross the flooded section.
The 26-year-old father was rescued and taken to a local hospital in unknown condition, but family members said the boy, whose name is Xavier, has not been found.
“My nephew is 2! … he is super small and he his missing from the car in the river. He has brown hair and eyes he’s a lighter skin tone. Please help us find him,” Leeanna Kay posted Thursday night.
The incident comes amid a day of powerful thunderstorms that caused mudslides across portions of Southern California, including Oak Glen, where video submitted by a KTLA viewer showed mud quickly rushing down a hillside, overtaking portions of a parking lot.
