
According to District Attorney Ricky Babin, two of the three suspects in a shooting pleaded guilty to murder charges. Jamil Joseph, 21, was charged with attempted second-degree murder and Makiah Nailer, 20, was charged with conspiracy to commit attempted second-degree murder.
On March 28, 2024, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Barcelona Drive about a shooting. When they arrived, deputies found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was taken to a hospital and ultimately recovered.
During the investigation, detectives learned that a car occupied by multiple individuals approached the victim’s home as he was standing near his mailbox. Shortly after, gunfire erupted and the victim was shot numerous times. Further investigation revealed that the victim and an individual discussed a drug deal. The victim was lured out of his home and ambushed. Joseph, Nailer, and Jeremiah Jones were identified as suspects.
Joseph was sentenced to 15 years for his charges, with credit for time served, and Nailer was sentenced to eight years. Jones remains in prison awaiting trial.
