Retired police officer dies by suicide near NOPD headquarters
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A retired police officer died by suicide in the building that houses the New Orleans Police Department headquarters on Thursday, Sept. 18, according to the NOPD.
NOPD officials said the incident occurred around 10:35 a.m. in the DXC Technology Building on Poydras Street. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died.
“You know police work brings with it at times heavy burdens and private hurts and wounds,” said NOPD superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick. “That sometimes creates heavy heavy hearts. Indeed, our priority right now is supporting our people.”
