Man charged in Baton Rouge shooting that left one dead

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Police arrested a man accused of a Baton Rouge shooting that left one person dead.

Tre’Vionte Simpson was charged with second-degree murder, illegal possession of firearms and felon in possession.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said Jaray Washington, 27, was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries. Officers responded to the shooting on Sycamore Street after 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13.

Detectives learned that Washington tried to intervene in a fight before he was shot. Simpson was quickly identified as a suspect. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Thursday.
