Wednesday forecast: Another day of sunny skies, summer-like temps in Chicagoland
Once again, Chicagoland will bask in a day of sunshine and summer-like temperatures on Wednesday.
It will be a fourth straight day of nearly 100% sunny skies, with high temps reaching the mid-80s inland and the mid- to upper 70s along the lake.
It’s been another comfortable start to Wednesday, with lows ranging from the mid-50s well inland to the mid-60s in downtown Chicago during the early-morning hours.
Daytime highs will be very similar to those observed on Tuesday, peaking in the middle to perhaps upper 80s in a few locations far away from Lake Michigan, while light lake breezes keep highs a few degrees lower on area beaches.
High pressure off to the east across Ohio is responsible for another day of quiet weather conditions in Chicagoland, while portions of the Plains see some potentially active thunderstorms closer to an area of low pressure.
Despite the seasonal drop-off, water temperatures are still quite tolerable for this time of year, topping out near 70 degrees for many areas. If you’re a boater and lucky enough to have the day off Wednesday, conditions look ideal with only a minor 0–1-foot chop expected.
A warmer than normal pattern will continue uninterrupted, despite modest cooling this weekend.
Above normal temperatures will dominate not just here, but for a large portion of the Midwest and Eastern U.S.
Coast to coast, overall above normal temperatures are expected as we move into the final days of September.
Dry, quiet weather is in firm control until later this weekend, when scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorm return to parts of the area.
Slightly higher humidity returns to the area later this week and weekend, with moderate humidity (60+ dewpoints) forecast for the area. This may help fuel any showers or thunderstorms that develop.
While some rainfall is likely across the Chicago metro area, the heaviest, most beneficial rainfall is likely to fall to the west, across the Midwest and Plains.
