WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Stretch Your Dollar: On the Town takes a budget-friendly approach to hitting the social scene in the D.C. area. Using the average cost of going out in the DMV as a gauge.

With hundreds of businesses across the Washington, D.C. region, this episode delves into restaurants that planted their roots in the DMV and blossomed: Silver Diner, Guapo’s and Crown Bakery.

Born in Rockville, Md., Silver Diner has become a hometown favorite and is known for bringing farm-fresh items straight to the table. Founded by Robert (Bob) Giaimo and Chef Ype Von Hengst, Silver Diner has flourished since opening its doors over 30 years ago.

Guapo’s thrives off its family atmosphere and highlights Tex-Mex food. With its flavorful fajitas, nachos, chimichangas and more, the family-owned business has more than four locations across the DMV.

While paying homage to the tastes of the Caribbean, owners of Crown Bakery, Jennifer and Trevor Selman, bring the spice and flavors of Trinidad and Tobago to Washington, D.C. Featuring traditional street food, pastries and baked goods, the restaurant has become a staple on Georgia Avenue, serving the community for 25 years.
