According to the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, 37-year-old Tomarcus Porter was found guilty by a jury of committing battery on a correctional officer.
DA’s office officials said an officer at the prison gave an instruction to Porter while making security rounds. Court documents state that Porter instead reached into his toilet, grabbed a handful of feces, and flung it at the officer, striking him on his face, arm and leg. A second officer who had approached was struck on the head and shoulder.
Additional staff was summoned and subdued Porter.
At the time of the incident, Porter was already serving a total of 20 years on eight sentences for five separate Orleans Criminal District Court cases. These include manslaughter, aggravated second-degree battery, four counts of aggravated battery and two counts of introduction of contraband into a penal institution.
According to the district attorney’s office, the victim in his manslaughter case was found in Armstrong Park badly decomposed with her throat slashed.
The district attorney’s office reported that Porter also has convictions for aggravated sexual battery, second-degree battery, theft, illegal carrying of weapons, failure to register as a sex offender, aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.
