ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The second man responsible for killing Deontay Turner in Rockford in 2022 has been convicted of murder.

Turner, 19, was shot near the intersection of 11th Street and 6th Avenue on April 14th, 2022.

A ShotSpotter gunshot detection alert sent officers to the area around 6:30 p.m., and they found Turner at the scene.

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office said Turner had been shot 20 times.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Court records showed Turner had a criminal past and had been listed as a wanted fugitive for Aggravated Domestic Battery in August 2021.

Dylan Dehnam, 31, and Tyree Scott, 27, were developed as suspects in the shooting. Denham was arrested in Florida in March 2023.

Authorities said video surveillance from a nearby business showed Denham approach Turner from behind and shoot him multiple times in the back.

After the shooting, Denham was seen running to a vehicle and leaving the area.

A witness told law enforcement that Denham had shot Turner because he thought Turner was in a rival gang.

In February 2024, Scott was sentenced to 10 years in prison for Turner’s murder.

On Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, a Winnebago County Jury found Denham guilty of First Degree Murder.

His sentencing will take place on November 13th, 2025.
