16th Annual Toyota Tundra Food Drive helps Philabundance 'haul away hunger'
“Two-hundred thirty-four meals sounds like a lot, until you realize Philabundance feeds 185-thousand people a week,” said Paul Muller, President of the Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association.
Swoop with the Philadelphia Eagles, The Phanatic with the Philadelphia Phillies, Franklin the Dog with the Philadelphia 76ers and hundreds of other volunteers boxed up 234,000 healthy meals, revved up the Tundras, and delivered them to families in need.
“There are far too many of our neighbors that are food-insecure,” said Philabundance CEO Loree D. Jones Brown. “In the City of Philadelphia alone, there are 1 in 3 kids experiencing food insecurity, and we have the benefit of serving the whole region.”
Jones-Brown added that the 1 in 6 rate of food insecurity in Philadelphia was higher than 1 in 7 national average. Philabundance is the largest food-relief organization in the region serving nine communities in Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey. Their belief is that no one should go hungry while healthy food goes to waste.
Philabundance accepts donations year-round. For more information, go to Philabundance.org.
