Citizens started the campaign with a $50,000 donation to Philabundance.
Phillies fans can support the cause by texting “STRIKEOUTHUNGER” to 41444, or they can bid on items in an online auction including autographed hats, helmets, balls, jerseys, and gloves.
Food donations will also be accepted at the ballpark on June 22.
Phillies Pitcher Aaron Nola says the Phans Feeding Families Night is a cause that means a lot to him.
“There’s so many families and communities going to bed hungry. They’re struggling with hunger,” said Nola. “Being a parent now, I can’t even imagine my kid going to bed hungry. It breaks my heart to even think about that.”
Philabundance serves more than 135,000 people each week, a number that continues to grow as families deal with rising costs of basic necessities.
