The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced in a press release on Sept. 15 that it is waiving the usual fees charged to people who are trying to use boat launch ramps and swimming beaches for one day this fall. The fees will be dropped on Saturday, Sept. 27 in recognition of National Public Lands Day (NPLD).
People who make regular use of recreational areas will be able to enjoy the use of swim beaches and boat ramps at zero cost. The special offer does not extend to camping and camping-related services or fees for specialized facilities like group picnic shelters.
The USACE reports that thousands of volunteers are expected to show up at the more than 250 sites it manages to support outdoor recreational activities and mark NPLD. More than 4,400 volunteers served nearly 20,000 hours of work on USACE-managed lands and helped get rid of almost 50,000 pounds of trash in 2024.
Volunteers are encouraged to participate in NPLD again in 2025 to help clear and maintain trails, shorelines and roadways across the nation. You can learn more about events and volunteer opportunities for NPLD by clicking here.
People who pitch in to help will receive a fee-free coupon if the site they are helping to clean up has signed up to the coupon program. This coupon is valid for one year from the date it is issued and can be used for one day of entrance or day use fees at any participating federal agency’s forest, park or recreation area that charges these types of fees.
