It has been five days since conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, was assassinated during an event at Utah Valley University.
Following the shooting, there has been a surge of firings across the country for employees who were called out for making negative or even celebratory social media posts regarding the death of Kirk.
Last week, the School District of Lancaster issued a statement after a faculty member allegedly reposted a photo on social media that called Kirk a “racist” in addition to saying they “extend no empathy for people like that”.
Following the post, the School District of Lancaster released a statement, saying in part that “The School District of Lancaster abhors violence of any kind and is committed to schools that are safe, inclusive, and welcoming to all in our community.”
Since this statement, there have now been two other school districts in the Midstate that released statements acknowledging social media posts made by alleged staff members.
Cocalico School District released a statement on their website that reads:
“We have been made aware of a social media post attributed to one of our staff members, who is currently on a sabbatical. We wish to assure our community that Cocalico School District does not condone violence of any kind and is committed to schools that are safe and welcoming. The district is investigating the matter, and as with all personnel matters, our longstanding practice is to address concerns privately. We appreciate the cooperation and support of our community.”
In addition to Cocalico School District, a message to the community was also released by Southern York County School District‘s Superintendent, Dr. Robert Bryson, which says the following:
“We were recently made aware of posts made by Southern York County School District staff on social media. Please understand that the personal comments posted by staff on social media are their own and do not in any way speak for the Southern York County School District.
Southern York County School District condemns the assassination of Charlie Kirk and political violence in all forms. We express our condolences to his family and friends. The district is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for everyone. We are immensely proud of the safe, supportive, and collaborative environment that our staff, students, and community have worked to cultivate at all schools in the Southern York County School District. While it is not the district’s policy to comment or publicly share details on personnel matters, we expect all staff to behave in a respectful and professional manner that represents our schools.
We are committed to keeping our schools safe and welcoming spaces where the focus is on academic success and preparing students for their future. We are grateful to all of you for your partnership in education and appreciate your support as we remain focused on this important work.”
