Microchip scanners now available at all Columbus Fire Stations because of new community partnership

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A collaboration between Columbus Fire and EMS and Paws Humane Society is expanding a program that will make microchip scanning more accessible.

According to Paws Humane Society, the “Homeward Bound” program aims to ensure lost pets can be reunited with their owners quickly without entering shelters. The program was originally launched under the former Columbus Animal Care and Control administration at five fire stations and is now growing citywide.

Fire Stations 2 (Rose Hill), 4 (St. Mary’s Road), 8 (Whitesville Road), 9 (Macon Road), and 10 (Fort Benning Road) — were part of the original pilot program and are already equipped with scanners. The Homeward Bound expansion will now equip all Columbus Fire Stations with microchip scanning capabilities.

Paws Humane says that Best Friends Animal Society will be donating addititonal microchip scanners to equip Columbus Fire and EMS.
