ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. — A 16-year-old boy from Mount Prospect has died after the e-bicycle he was riding crashed into a pick-up truck in Arlington Heights.

The fatal incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of South Reuter Drive and West Grove Street.

Upon arrival, police and fire departments discovered the boy unconscious with traumatic injuries and paramedics attempted advanced life-saving efforts.

The teen was transported to Lutheran General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck was uninjured

According to a preliminary investigation, the teen was travelling northbound on Reuter Drive and entered the intersection, stricking a Ford F150 in the rear passenger door at a high rate of speed. Officials say the initial investigation suggests the teen failed to obey the stop sign.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to police.

There is no suspicion of impairment for the driver of the Ford F150.

The Arlington Heights Police Department’s Traffic Crash Investigators, Reconstructionist Specialists and Forensic Technicians are investigating.
