West Virginia lawmaker proposes Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WTRF) — A West Virginia lawmaker is proposing legislation to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk with a statewide Day of Remembrance.

Delegate Anders said Monday he has requested a bill designating Oct. 14, Kirk’s birthday, as an annual day to recognize his legacy.

“Charlie’s impact on our nation cannot be overstated,” Anders said. “He inspired millions of young Americans to defend liberty, speak truth without fear, and live boldly in their faith.”

Anders said choosing Kirk’s birthday would give West Virginians a chance each year to reflect on what he described as the activist’s “vision and lasting contribution to freedom.”

“This is not about politics,” Anders said. “This is about ensuring that a man who lived with purpose and courage is remembered for the legacy he left behind.”

Kirk, founder of the conservative group Turning Point USA, has been a high-profile figure in national politics. Anders said West Virginia should take the lead in honoring his memory.

“In a time when truth-tellers are often silenced, it is our responsibility to make sure Charlie’s voice echoes on,” Anders said.
