Train vs. vehicle crash prompts huge search for missing 82-year-old woman in Osage County

OSAGE COUNTY (KSNT) – First responders and volunteers found a missing older woman after a multi-hour search and report of a train hitting a vehicle in Osage County.

Sheriff Chris Wells with the Osage County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release that his office received a 911 call around 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 15 regarding a train hitting a vehicle near K-276 Highway and South Lewelling Road. Deputies and other first responders travelled to the site but found nobody with the vehicle.

Deputies, volunteers and others began a search of the nearby area, covering about two to three miles. This group later found a missing 82-year-old woman around 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 15 in a heavily wooded area near the railroad tracks.

First responders took the woman to a Topeka hospital for treatment. She is currently in stable condition.
