Hulu to Adapt Penn Cole’s Spark of the Everflame Romantasy Series

Preparations for the romantasy invasion continue, with Hulu snapping up the rights to adapt the Kindred’s Curse Saga, authored by Penn Cole. The show will be based on the first book in the series, Spark of the Everflame, according to Deadline, and will be titled just Everflame. Writer and producer Heidi Cole McAdams, who wrote on The 100, Death And Other Details, and Stumptown, will act as co-creator on the project.

The fantasy romance tells the story of healer Diem Bellator and her life in the magical land of Emarion. Once the home to immortal beings called the Kindred, that land is now run by the Descended, their scions. Diem – not a huge fan of the Descended – ends up entangled with the Prince of Lumnos, Luther Corbois, part of one of the land’s most powerful houses. Cue some slow burn and plenty of romantic tension.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Heidi Cole McAdams to adapt The Kindred’s Curse Saga,” Cole told Deadline. “She truly understands the core messages of the series and what makes Diem’s story compelling. Heidi has an incredible eye for re-imagining the story for a visual medium while preserving the aspects of the books that readers love most, and her enthusiasm for collaboration makes her an author’s dream to work with. I have no doubt this adaptation will be as beloved to new audiences as it will be to the series’ passionate fanbase.”

Everflame joins a wave of social media book sensations that are currently in development. The first novel in the Empyrean fantasy romance series, Fourth Wing, by Rebecca Yarros, is coming to Prime Video from Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society. The Blood and Ash Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout is currently with Sony Pictures Television, and Netflix has Callie Hart’s Quicksilver, to name just a few. Sadly, the A Court Of Thorns And Roses (ACOTAR) adaptation once in the works at Hulu has been cancelled, but we did find out last month that author Sarah J. Maas regained the rights, so we may still hear about adaptations of ACOTAR in the future.
