Rockford officers find handguns with laser attachments in teen’s car

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford officers stopped a teen driver overnight Sunday and seized two handguns, both with laser light attachments, authorities said.

According to police, officers with the department’s Specialized Community Oriented Police Enforcement (SCOPE) unit pulled a car over in the area of Elm and Church around 12:35 a.m. Sunday, and found the two handguns during a search of the vehicle.

The driver, Damajae Downing, 18, was arrested on four counts of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, two counts of no valid Firearm Owners Identification, and various traffic offenses.

Downing was booked into the Winnebago County Jail pending the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing.
