Bomb squad remotely detonates suspicious device found near road in Nephi

NEPHI, Utah (ABC4) — Police detonated a suspicious object that was found on the side of the road in Nephi Sunday.

At about 5:30 p.m., a member of the community reported the object. After arriving and assessing the situation, officers with the Nephi City Police Department called the Utah County Bomb Squad.

Members of the Bomb Squad investigated the device before opening it remotely from the Nephi City gun range. Police say the remote detonation was “heard by many in the community.” However, nothing of immediate concern was found inside the object.

The scene has since been cleared and officers say there is no ongoing threat to public safety at this time.

Police did not offer any more details about the contents of the item or what was found inside.
