A 10-year-old boy is recovering after getting an electrical shock at a football game on Friday night.
“He lost consciousness, he lost vision, he was agitated and disoriented. It was a pretty scary experience for both of us,” said Katelyn Johnson.
Johnson says her son Quinn was shocked when he leaned against a stadium light at the East Central football game Friday night.
According to a statement released by the East Central School District over the weekend, they discovered the pole was “hot,” which means it was conducting exposed and unsafe levels of electrical current.
The game was cancelled at halftime Friday night, and on Monday, the stadium was closed off with cones surrounding the light pole.
Johnson says Quinn was transported to HCMC Friday night but was released Saturday and is now at home recovering. One of the reasons she is speaking out is that she wants to ensure proper safety precautions are taken for the sake of others.
“I recognize this could have been a freak accident, there could have been a lot of elements at play that day… but at the end of the day, it happened to my son. As a mother, I would hate for another mother to experience what I did over the weekend,” she said.
The superintendent for the East Central School District released an update on Monday afternoon, saying: “We are working with an electrical contractor to diagnose and remedy the issue. The power supply remains off and practices will be held in an alternative location for at least today.”
