The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) said in a release that the incident happened on State Route 682 just south of Wildwood Lane around 9:18 a.m.
The release said Monica Leigh Perani, 27, of Corning was driving northwest when her vehicle was struck by a pickup truck driven by an Athens man that had gone left of the center line.
The Athens County Coroner’s Office declared Perani dead at the scene while the pickup driver was transported by Athens County EMS to the nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The release said both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol is not suspected of being involved in the crash. The incident is still under investigation.
Those on scene alongside OSHP were members of the Athens County Sheriff Office, the
Athens Police Department, Athens County Fire Department, The Plains Fire Department,
Athens County EMS, Athens County Coroner’s Office and the Ohio Department of
Transportation.
