ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) — A two-vehicle fatality crash on LA. 338 near Bonvillian Road in Vermilion Parish claimed the life of a former Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s deputy, Charles Levine, 56, of Youngsville, authorities said.  

During the investigation, it revealed that a 2012 Ford F-150, driven by Levine, was was allegedly traveling west on LA. 338 earlier this morning. At the same time, a 2019 GMC Sierra that was allegedly traveling east on LA. 338. For reasons unknown, the Ford allegedly crossed the centerline while in a right curve, entered the eastbound lane of travel, and struck the GMC head-on. After the collision, the Ford became fully engulfed in flames, authorities said.  

Authorities said Levine died at the scene and the driver of the GMC sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers for analysis, authorities said.

This crash remains under investigation.
