Capt. Brantley Worley of the McCaysville Police Department in Georgia was critically injured in the line of duty while responding to a call for service, according to a news release from police in McCaysville, about two miles from the North Carolina line.
Police said they are looking for Timothy Craig Ramsey, 26, who might be in Cherokee County, in the North Carolina mountains.
He is wanted on charges of aggravated assault with intent to murder a police officer after the incident just after 11:10 p.m. Friday, McCaysville police said. WTOC reported the McCaysville officer was shot in the throat.
“This subject is considered armed and extremely dangerous,” according to McCaysville police.
Ramsey ran from the scene wearing a bright green chemical-resistant type suit, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said. He also had a dark-colored motorcycle helmet.
“Last seen on foot, could possibly be close to the Cherokee County, N.C. area,” the North Carolina Blue Alert said.
A “Blue Alert” is sent to residents after “a violent attack upon a law enforcement officer,” according to North Carolina officials.
In Georgia, an alert was sent to cellphones in Fannin, Gilmer and Union counties.
Officials said anyone who knows the location of Ramsey should contact Georgia authorities at (800) 597-8477.
