“It’s one of those dreams that you dream about as a young coach and throughout your career that you can be in that seat one day and you can hold up a ball at the end of the game,” head coach Stan Kimbell said.
Kimbell’s first win as a head coach meant a little something to everyone.
“Feel good, I feel like we need to get some more,” senior Kason Campbell said. “It means a lot to him, and I know it do mean a lot to us as seniors and just our last year.”
Campbell contributed big to that win, with nine tackles, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.
“He’s such a target for a lot of teams to be able to stop and so he’s got to get better each and every day,” Kimbell said. “He’s not perfect by any means, and he’ll be the first one to tell you, but we’re looking to sharpen his tools up.”
Of course, there were other big playmakers as well.
“I’m very proud of our offensive line. They stepped up and they had a really, really great game. We’ve got a sophomore quarterback, Ridge England, first time being out here on Friday nights, touching the ball. Every snap and I felt like he had a lot of control,” Kimbell said. “Ashton Rowden always our guy that we lean on in a lot of our offense and he brings a lot of skins on the wall around here.”
As meaningful as the first game was to the Lions, it is now another week.
“Dream come true, but we have a short memory around here. We’re on to the next opponent. We appreciate Shelbyville, they’re a great opponent, they’re a great team and so wish them all the luck. But we have a quick memory, and so we hop right in into our next opponent.”
That next opponent is Atlanta, who will be traveling to New Boston for the Friday night matchup.
